Addressing the Challenges of Key Management
As Pass the Keys expanded, traditional lockboxes raised security concerns and smart locks proved costly and restrictive. The company needed a scalable, secure solution that worked across diverse properties.
"One of our partners said their territory buildings didn’t allow lockboxes, as it didn’t feel safe. KeyNest solves the problem, as guests can collect from the pickup point and use the code to return it, and it helps the property manager by knowing who's collecting and returning the keys," recalls Germaine Mason, Franchisee & Host Success Lead.
Introducing KeyNest as a Scalable Solution
Pass the Keys first used KeyNest in 2019 when Mason, then a property manager in York, sought a better way to manage guest check-ins. Since then, KeyNest’s growing network has supported franchise partners across cities like London and Manchester, offering professional key exchange and improving guest experiences.
"I remember walking around a 24-hour spa in York several times, trying to persuade them to become the first KeyNest location in the city," Mason says. "Since then, availability has expanded considerably, making it much more accessible."
A Reliable Alternative to Lockboxes
KeyNest has become the preferred option in cities where lockboxes aren’t viable. Real-time tracking gives managers oversight of key movements and reduces the risk of lost keys.
"KeyNest provides a safe and secure way for our guests to access keys, ensuring a smooth start to their stay. It also helps us track our keys more easily," notes one franchise partner. Another adds:
"There are several KeyNest locations just minutes away, making it very convenient for guests, especially compared to searching for hidden keys at night."
Looking Ahead
As demand for mid-lets grows, Pass the Keys plans to deepen its partnership with KeyNest. With a larger network and scalable system, KeyNest will continue to play a central role in ensuring smooth operations and secure, convenient guest check-ins.
